About Midlands Engine
The Midlands Engine is aimed at boosting economic growth and improved productivity, positioning the Midlands as a major UK and European gateway and promoting the region’s opportunities to investors and trade partners. Projected benefits of the programme are an additional £34 billion of revenue in the Midlands economy by 2030 and 300,000 new jobs.
The region is home to 25 universities and globally significant employers including Jaguar Land Rover, Rolls Royce and JCB, as well as significant clusters of life sciences companies and organisations in the finance and business services sectors.
Financial support for the programme includes a Midlands Engine Investment Fund of over £250 million to invest in smaller businesses in the region plus research & development funding of £16m to support the aerospace industry in the East Midlands and £15m directed towards research into lowering vehicle emissions across vehicles produced by a range of local manufacturers.
